|Cemetery notes and/or description:|
The Tindall Family Cemetery is located near the "Turkey Hill" section of Shenango Township. The Tindall family cemetery is most famously known as the resting place of Mary Black, a supposed, but never proven witch of around the same time period.
From New Castle take Rte. 168 South. Go to West Pittsburg Power Plant. At traffic light turn left. About one mile will bring you to an intersection, turn right.Cross a bridge to a fork in the road. Go right 1/2 mile to a sharp bend off to the left. There is a place to pull off the road. Walk back into the woods about 1/4 mile. Follow path to the cemetery.
Off of Chewton Wampum Road right past Turkey Hill Road. Near limestone quarry.
There is a story about Tindall's "Graveyard" being haunted by Mary Johnson Black. As a result, most of the tombstones have been destroyed or stolen. I was told by one of the staff at the New Castle Library that Mary Black's tombstone was found in the West Pittsburg Swamp and it now is at the Lawrence County Historical Society.
