|Cemetery notes and/or description:|
At Jumping Branch, take Route 3 West toward Beckley. You will start up what is called White Oak Mountain. Just about 4 tenths of a mile BEFORE you cross over the Summers County line to go into Raleigh County, WV, you will see a road on the right side of Route 3 that is named the Tom Mack Road. It is County Road 3/36. This road is a little steep, but paved/gravel and a good road. Take this Tom Mack road maybe a 1/2 mile, all the way to the top. When you get to the top, you will see a gate on the right. You can either park at the gate (but do not block the gate) or can open the gate and drive thru the gate. The Farley-Vest Cemetery is a very very short distance once you get thru the gate. It is an easy walk. There is cattle --- so be sure to close the gate!! Once you go thru the gate, you will see the cemetery down over the hill on the left. There is another gate at the cemetery, so be sure that gate is also closed so that the cattle cannot get inside the cemetery. Cemetery is well-kept. Cemetery is on the original homeplace of Erastus Farley. The Tom Mack road is named after Tom McLaughlin who married a daughter of Erastus Farley and lived close to the cemetery.Once you get insdie the cemetery, you can look to the right of the cemetery and see an old roadbed and this old roadbed was the Giles, Fayette- Kanawha Turnpike. This is a link for information on the old Giles-Fayette-Kanawha turnpike.
