|Cemetery notes and/or description:|
St. James Episcopal Church was erected in 1848 at a cost of $1300.00, in what was then Derry Township, Columbia County, Pennsylvania. In 1845, Stephen Ellis gave $200.00 in a verbal will towards the construction of a church building. Rev. Milton Lightner (who first came to the area to preach at Stephen Ellis’ funeral) held services in what was known as the Baptist schoolhouse from 1845-1848, on the existing site. He led the charge for church construction and would serve the congregation for the next ten years. Although today its membership is quite small, St. James is still a very active church serving the local community of Exchange, Pennsylvania.
