Beijing Municipality China
|Cemetery notes and/or description:|
Also known as the Thirteen Tombs (十三陵), the Ming Tombs are the final resting places of the last 13 emperors of the Ming Dynasty. They lie about 45km NNW of Beijing, and were designed according to principles of fengshui and geomancy.
The map below shows the GPS location of the first and largest of the tombs, the tomb of the Yongle Emperor. The other tombs are similar but smaller keyhole-shaped mounds in the vicinity, most within 4km to the NW or 2km to the SE of the main tomb. A few more lie across the river valley to the west-southwest.
