The congregation was organized in 1839 and a building of stone was erected in 1840 within the current boundaries of the cemetery. In 1843 the church was referenced as Emanuel Church. The first officers were Jonathan Swartz and Philip Kell, elders, and Adam Orris and Henry Kell, deacons (all of whom are buried in the cemetery). With the building of the church, entire families belonging to the Loysville Lutheran Church withdrew and connected with the Buffalo Church, the Lutherans assuming the unpaid portion of the building. Conrad Rice and Jonathan Swartz composed the building committee. Henry Hartman and Henry Kell were long faithful pillars of this church. Jointly these two peoples — Reformed and Lutherans — worshiped here until 1886-87, when each erected its own edifice.
"The new church across the road from the cemetery was dedicated on March 7, 1886, the stained glass memorial windows having been designed by Prof. J.C. Miller, the penman, himself a member of the congregation" (buried in the cemetery). A major donor for the church was the now-defunct, Hench & Dromgold Company, established by descendants of long-time members of the congregation, many of whom are buried at the cemetery. In the 1950s the church became known as the "Saville Brethren in Christ Church."
