|Cemetery notes and/or description:|
The old Smith School House was located across Highway 41 from where Arley Congregational Church is now. Crockett Moses Smith and Ella are listed as being buried at this Church cemetery. There is an historical marker in our cemetery book that says:
Former Site of Smith School House
Named for Uncle Harve Smith, patriarch of the Smith Family in this community. Built in 1911 on two acres of land bought for $5.00. Seat of learning or readin', 'ritin', and 'rithmetic until 1923 when it was consolidated with others to form Meek School. First teacher was Jesse G. Davis, the last teacher Miss Lollie Young. From the beginning, the schoolhouse also served as a church. Here the children learned the Ten Commandments: and residents of the area have been inspired by good singin', good preachin', praisin' of the Lord, and the old-time religion.
