Designed By Chev. Emanuele Luigi Galizia (1830 - 1907), The Santa Maria Addolorata Cemetery Was Officially Inaugurated And Blessed On May 9, 1869, However The First Internment Did Not Take Place Until January 23, 1872. The First Person Buried At The Cemetery Was A Beggar From Naxxar, Anna Magro, Who Died At The Central Hospital Of Floriana.
Presently, The Addolorata Cemetery Houses The Remains Of Over 282,000 People. Since Its Foundation Up To 2010, The Apostleship Of The Cemetery Was Run By The Capuchin Fathers. Currently There Is No Religious Presence At The Cemetery.
Full Of Exquisite Mausoleums And Statues In Marble And Bronze, The Addolorata Cemetery Is One Of The Most Renowned Cemeteries Across Europe. |
