South Carolina USA
|Cemetery notes and/or description:|
The Wrenn-Cousar graves are located about 15 miles north of Lancaster between U.S Highway #521 and South Carolina Highway #35 on land that was originally granted to Joseph Crawford (near what is now Andrew Jackson State Park). This land was sold by Thomas Crawford to William Wrenn, and the land passed through Wrenn, Cureton, Hasseltine, and Chafee hands before being sold to Wiesenfeld and Company of Baltimore, Maryland right before the turn of the century.
On a secluded wooded hilltop there are evidently two or three rows of graves, but only two headstones still exist. One, an obelisk about 9 feet tall, has inscriptions on all four sides. The other stone is a 5 foot marker with a Bible and Testament on top.
