Davenport Cemetery
Central Valley, Orange County, New York, USA
"... a small cemetery (or what is left of it) for Revolutionary soldiers. It was disturbed and bulldozed when the previous owners constructed the present building. Bones are now in a stand of pines to the left of Bond Street heading east. They are in a common grave now and the settling of the ground has left a depression where the bones were left."
- Town of Woodbury Comprehensive Plan, 1985, 2010
"Page 269 I 6. Oliver ….. "When Thomas Davenport, the Pioneer, deeded the farm to his son Oliver in 1752, it was in the then called Precinct of Goshen, Orange Co., N.Y. This land is now (1964) the Morgan S. Elmer farm at Central Valley, N.Y. This, I believe, is where Oliver died and no doubt was buried in the private burying ground across the street from the house. The burying ground was leveled this year for industry but only one stone was found – I believe it was for Jesse Davenport ……" (Mrs. Emma J. McWhorter, Highland Mills)"
- Thomas Davenport The Pioneer, Supplement II, page 10
Oliver Davenport is actually believed to be buried in the Captain Francis Smith Cemetery on Route 32.
