|Cemetery notes and/or description:|
Josiah Baird Family Cemetery is North of Sykes, Tennessee in a pasture at 91 Hall Lane. The cemetery is probably closer to Brush Creek but also not far from Hickman. The Baird family owned the tract of land in early days and then the land was owned by Clarence Prowell. There are no readable grave markers in this cemetery. There are 6 to 8 above ground crypts on the south side of the iron fence. These crypts were used prior to the Civil War. It is estimated that this cemetery contains 25 graves for the Baird & Prowell Family. It is also believed that there is an unmarked slave cemetery some 100 to 150 feet from fenced area. Unfortunately, cattle have had access to cemetery grounds for the last 100 years leaving graves unattended and almost destroyed. The entire Baird land is surrounded by a rock fence. See Josiah Baird memorial for additional information. Josiah Baird's date of death was 1861.There appears to be 4-5 rows of burials to the north and east of the iron fence at this cemetery.
