Cemetery notes and/or description: This probably is NOT the actual burial area, after further research. Hopefully, I will be able to do a "field survey" of this area soon. Meanwhile, the Commerce Cabinet of Kentucky's American Heritage Council has been notified of this mass burial. The Camp Nelson Association is also involved now. After further study, it may be that the site is 1,000 or so feet SSE of the site marked on the map. At this time, there is a project to map a cemetery across Hiway 60 with Ground Penetrating Radar, in an attempt to locate this burial there. Will keep posted.
Update: It now appears from study the mass grave is in Lincoln Ridge Cemetery. Archealogists have yet to test exact site, but many physical signs point to this being the case. If proven, we will move "Mass Grave" into Lincoln Ridge as a plot.
It has been impossible to exactly locate the "mass grave" with certainty. A project is underway to set a memorial plot with 22 stones just off the State right of way, in front of Lincoln Ridge Cemetery. (June 2009)
