|Cemetery notes and/or description:|
Old St. Patrick's includes remains from the defunct St. Peter's Churchyard (established c.1785), which had adjoined the original church of that name located on the SE corner of Barclay and Church Streets in lower Manhattan. The disinterment and tranferral to Old St. Patrick's occurred in 1836, preceding the reconstruction of St. Peter's Church on a larger scale. Construction was completed for this church in 1815 (cornerstone laid down in 1809). With its paritioners made up mostly of immigrant Irish Catholics, it served as the seat of the New York Archdiocese until supplanted by the new (and present day) Saint Patricks's Cathedral in 1879. It has served as a parish church from that time until the present.
