From the intersection of State St. & Highway 54 (light) in Iola, Kansas.
Turn North on State Street for 4 miles to South Dakota Road.
Turn West on South Dakota Road for 2-1/2 miles to 900 St.
Cemetery is located 1/2 mile South of the 900 St. and South Dakota Road (a "T" intersection) on private property. Permission is needed from property owner to access the cemetery.
The entries are taken from a cemetery canvassing in c.1980. This cemetery was noted as abandoned and neglected in 1982, and is definitely sadly neglected, as of 2007, and has been allowed to grow up in brush and trees.
History:
James and Nancy C. Carpenter deeded to the Trustees of Carpenter Graveyard, (T.M. Funston, George Hall, and A.J. Estep) on March 12, 1872, a plot of ground containing 1 acre.
Note: Records indicate that many graves are marked with rocks and that there are several Indian graves covered with rocks.

Carpenter Graveyard is Located 2 miles north, 2-1/2 miles West, 1/2 mile South of Iola, Kansas, in the Northwest quarter of Section 8, Township 24, Range 18 east.
