|Cemetery notes and/or description:|
In November of 1911 a deed was made by Margaret, Ransom, Thomas, S. H., and Mattie Meadows for land to build a church to trustees L. P. Williams, J. W. Hereford, and A. B. Perry of the Mt. Olive Methodist Episcopal Church South of Glenwood Circuit of West Virginia Conference.
Mt. Olive Church is located in the Hannan District of Mason Co., WV despite its Milton address. The land the church sits on was once part of the S. J. Crump farm close to Whitten graveyard.
When the church opened it was one room and heated with wood and then later coal. At the time, Dora Jolley was the only female member of the church.
The minister who gave services, or circuit rider, when the church opened, was not paid a salary but instead received the change from the offering plate as a gift. He would, after services, be invited home for lunch or to stay the night by the main leader of the church.
In 1950, when the roads were better, now graveled, attendance grew and more than one room was needed, the trustees decided to expand. With the help of the late Elizabeth Jolly Webb, a new church was built and later Sunday School rooms were added.
