|Cemetery notes and/or description:|
Stamford West Cemetery is a public cemetery which opened about 1900 when Stamford was formed and was designated for the Black community in the area. It has been in continual use with at least 8 burials between 2001 and 2009. The earliest known burial was in 1903; however there were probably some prior to then. There are between 500 and 600 burials with over 400 documented and at least 125 unmarked & unknown.
Highland Memoral Cemetery has also been used by the Black community for the past 40 years. Both cemeteries are maintained by the City of Stamford.
