Not to be confused with the "New York City Marble Cemetery", which is an entirely different entity, this cemetery is located on 2nd Ave. between East 2nd St. and East 3rd St. in NYC. Gates are locked to the general public and opened only during certain times of the year for researchers and visitors. This is the only way in and out. The headstones are mounted on the surrounding walls. The vaults are under the ground and made of white Tuckahoe marble. It is open monthly. The marble tablets in the walls are not headstones; they are actually the names of the early owners, only half of whom are buried in the Cemetery.
