The site is located 5 miles west of HWY 301 (La Plata, MD) on Rose Hill Road between Maryland Routes 6 and 225 near Port Tobacco, Maryland. It has been administered by the National Park Service as a National Historic Site since 1997. A Visitor Center features exhibits, an orientation film, sales area and restrooms. Parking is available at the Visitor Center. Free

At the National Historic Site is the restored house of Thomas Stone signer of the Declaration of Independence and 322 acres of Haberdeventure, a “dwelling place in the winds”. The Stone family lived at Haberdeventure from 1770 until 1936, a total of six generations. When a fire destroyed much of the main house in 1977, the house had been continuously occupied for over 200 years. In addition to the house, the park contains outbuildings and the family cemetery. |
