|Cemetery notes and/or description:|
The Partain Cemetery is about a mile or so past where you turn into the Hawley Cemetery, down the same road, past the hard right bend, then just a tenth of a mile further on the left in an unprotected cow pasture. The owner (name withheld) says that there used to be several additional headstones, but over time, they were stolen. There are NO sexton records as this used to be a private family cemetery of Robert and Jenette (O'Neal) Partain on their property. I photographed what was left of it on February 18, 2008. Owner of the property says that he would have no objection to fencing off the area from his cattle, but will not do so at his own expense. In the photo, the large stone on it's back is of John Partain, and the other four sided stone at the far edge (back of photo) is of Nancy (infant), Nancy (Smallery) Partain, Robert's mother, and Robert's wife Jenette (O'Neal) Partain. Other burials here are lost to time, as markers are gone.
