|Cemetery notes and/or description:|
The Mellinger Cemetery, located in the Southwest Quarter of Section 15, Washington Township, is among the oldest of the burial grounds in the community. One acre of land for the cemetery was deeded by Harrison Mellinger to the township trustees, May 5, 1870; the deed is recorded in Volume 19, page 83, Paulding County Record of Deeds. Only the deed of the Boutwell Cemetery has an earlier date among the cemeteries of the township. The Mellinger Cemetery is located one and one-half miles east and about one and one-half miles north of Roselms. The Mellinger Chapel (M. E. Church) was formerly located at the north end of the cemetery, and the depressions in the ground where the wooden foundation pillars have rotted away may still be seen. On the tombstones in the cemetery are found the names of several of Washington Township's earlier settlers.
