Cemetery notes and/or description: The Albany Cemetery consist of 60 acres on the Northeast side of town, off of Highway 283. A through search has revealed the oldest grave in the Albany Cemetery is that of Gerucillia Montgomery 3/16/1874 - 4/19/1877. Many of the old pioneers are buried here. Ranchers, doctors, lawyers, judges, storekeepers, lawmen, soldiers, buffalo hunters - are all a part of this great county. T. H. Barre donated the original land and acted as cemetery supervisor. He sold the lots for $10.00 each, allotting 16 for paupers and 16 for colored. The Cemetery was cataloged by Jo Ann Farmer & Duveen Russell in the 1990s. |
