|Cemetery notes and/or description:|
The United Methodist Cemetery located about one mile north of the city of Wyoming, Chisago County, MN was established on land that was deeded to the church on October 9, 1861 by Frederick and Fredericka TEPEL.
The cemetery is operated by a board of trustees and is associated with the United Methodist Church in the City of Wyoming, MN.
The cemetery was laid out using the traditional X&Y coordinate method with 16' by 16' lots. Lots were labeled using the familiar Township/Range/Section numbering scheme (left to right, down, right to left). Each lot was then subdivided into 8 graves and sold in pairs, quads, or the entire lot of 8 graves. Some infants and cremains have been doubled up in a single grave location.
The original cemetery contained 30 lots for a capacity of 240 burials. The current cemetery has 154 lots with a capacity of about 1,200 graves. The older 30-lot section is surrounded on all sides by newer lots so a cemetery map is helpful to quickly locate any specific interment. The entire cemetery is about 300 feet square.
A cemetery plat map can be downloaded by clicking this [ LINK ].
The original interment record book is in the care of the cemetery sexton, Mr. Myron Zaruba of Wyoming, MN. He had this old record transcribed into a new loose leaf record keeping system. The original book is no longer used.
The photographs of all visible markers have been uploaded as of 30-Aug-2012!
