|Cemetery notes and/or description:|
The Old Bridgeport Cemetery was located across School street from the Court House, between Main Street to Bryant Street and then to the west boundary of what is shown as the "Delury Lot," presumably on Emigrant Street.
The cemetery land was surveyed by Charles W. ?Fulson?, the County Surveyor and is shown in Map Book 1. The cemetery boundaries are shown to be 300 ft square or roughly a little over an acre land.
I have read that some of the graves were moved, but no gravemarkers for the people known to have been buried in this cemetery exist in the new cemetery. There are currently structures covering the area of the cemetery all the way from Main Street to Emigrant Street.
There was no California statute that would have allowed the graves to be removed from this cemetery unless it was a County Hospital or institution cemetery. If graves were removed and relocated and someone knows of the documentation of this event, I would appreciate if you would advise me. My contact information is included in the memorials I've posted for this cemetery.
I attempted to post a copy of this map which is a PUBLIC RECORD, but Find A Grave does not allow it. I would be happy to share it with anyone who might be interested.
