Any collection of records, at best, is incomplete. This is a partial collection of records of residents and deaths in the Old County Hospital. Built in 1875, the hospital existed until June 1920 when it was replaced by a new County Hospital a few miles away.
Since there are no records before 1910 giving the location of burials as being County Hosp. Cemetery or County Cemtery, it is hard to determine if indeed a person was buried in the cemetery. However, occasionally, a record can be found in an old newspaper. This is the only clue we have to their places of internment.
Later, many of the records say things such as buried in the County Cemetery or Solano County Cemetery. Upon studying the old death certificates, it was finally determined that at the time, these references referred to the County Hospital Cemetery. If there was such another Cemetery, it has not been able to find any records of it's location. Therefore, it is safe to assume all certificates stating "County Cemetery" or "Solano County Cemetery" mean the Old County Hospital Cemetery.
There are 226 bodies believed to be buried there in canvas bags.
Today, the last remains of the Old County Hospital and cemetery are gone. In their place is a lovely park known as Tabor Park.
