|South River St., Bright Property|
|Cemetery notes and/or description:|
The name "BrickellTown Cemetery" became in evidence in the later years for Truckee History. Brickelltown is the name of a residental area located directly across from the area now known to be the first burying ground for Truckee. An Article dated 1877 talks about the abandoned area as being on the Lake Tahoe road, tucked up on the hillside. The photo shown is the only known exsisting photo of the area. Due to the difficulty of burying in this area in the winter, the Odd Fellows and the Masons purchased property on the North Hill above town and developed the first formal cemetery. This occurred in 1873 but may have been as early as 1872. The original burying ground was all but forgotten in 1877.
This area was built on in 1913 and it may have not been known it was once a cemetery.
Using the dates listed in Historical files people listed in this cemetery would have all passed on before the creation of the formal cemetery. It is not a perfect record nor is it complete as there are no records for this area.
