|Cemetery notes and/or description:|
The headstones are located within a specific section of Grangegorman Military Cemetery
and are immediately in front of the
Grangegorman [Cork] Memorial Headstones commemmorate the deaths of 83 men and women who were buried in unmarked graves in Ballincollig Military Cemetery, but whose graves could not be maintained there due to the political situation in Ireland in the years 1922-1990.
Each person noted meets the CWGC criteria for a WW1 death during the years 1914-1921, but some were British military casualties of the Irish War of Independence 1916-1922.
Each person has a standard military headstone, and all 83 were erected immediately in front of the Grangegorman Memorial. The headstones are laid out in alphabetical order, in two groups in front of the memorial panels.
It is in this area of the cemetery that the annual dawn ceremony takes place at 6.30am on 25 April, ANZAC Day.
