|Cemetery notes and/or description:|
Horseshoe Lake Cemetery is located on private land, west side of Horseshoe Lake, off of 141st Ave where it curves to run North to 466th St. The cemetery is about a half a mile East of the farm buildings, and is on a point of land that extends out into Horseshoe Lake in an easterly direction. There is a small grove of trees where the cemetery is located. The grove is about 200 feet by 150 feet. There are Lilac trees planted around the outside, and inside the grove are many Corn Lilly (Ditch Lilly), Sedum and several other domesticated plants that are now growing wild. There are also 2 large rocks, about 10 feet apart, about 18 inches tall, in the center of the opening. Sometime in the 1940s, shortly after their marriage, the property owners made a list of the names and dates on all of the headstones. This list was borrowed out to a person, and is now lost. They thought there were around 30 stones, but were not sure. They noticed several of the stones, mostly children, had the same death year of 1872. Sometime in the 1950s or 60s the landowners discovered that all the headstones in the cemetery had been stolen, except one small stone for an infant that was flush with the ground.
Records show some remains were removed from this cemetery and reinterred at Sakatah, Cemetery, Waterville, Le Sueur Co., MN. 1918-1937.
