|Cemetery notes and/or description:|
Location: North end of Roanoke Island, north of Manteo, on Hwy 64/264 go north 0.7 mile past Mother Vineyard Rd. (SR 1120) turn right on Lealand Lane. The Cemetery is located in a wooded area to the south of Lealand Lane, and east of the fence that borders land now owned by the Roanoke Island Historical Society. The road and land is privately owned so one must check with the land owners prior to entry. There are only three graves visible. Two are enclosed in a small chain link fence. Approximately 20 feet north-east of the chain link fence is one gravestone for William Montague [1806-1867]. This cemetery is very hard to see in the underbrush.
Condition: In a wooded area with much overgrowth as of 17 Jul 2012. The cemetery covers an area of about 75 square feet. Sunken places were observed which is believed to represent grave sites. Old wooden markers that were previously reported in Sacred To Their Memory: Dare County, NC Cemeteries. Manteo, NC, Gateway Press, Inc., by Lois Johnson Meekins, et al, (2001) were no longer visible.
