Bellefonte Cemetery
Off of Highway 601. 3 miles west of Lewiston.

Cemetery notes and/or description:
Bellefonte Cemetery is a family graveyard on the grounds of the Holladay estate. "Bellefonte" was established by Captain John Holladay on property he received in a 1702 land grant for his service as a Virginia Ranger. The property remained in the Holladay (Holliday) family until after the Civil War.

The family burying ground is located within a rock wall installed in 1922, behind the remains of the main house (vacant and in a state of neglect in 2013.) The cemetery is overgrown and does not appear to have been maintained for decades.

The graveyard contains only one marked headstone, that of Major Lewis Holladay which is marked with a D.A.R. plaque dedicated in 1933 recognizing his service as a Revolutionary War soldier.

All other graves in this cemetery are unmarked.

The cemetery photo was provided by Thomas Holladay.
