|Cemetery notes and/or description:|
Brinkley Cemetery was recorded back in the 1960's or early 1970's. Because there was no cemetery sign it was mistakenly recorded as an older part of Johnson Island Cemetery. There has been confusion if it even existed as not part of Johnson Island.
I have contacted Hopkins Co., Ky Genealogical Society, the Hopkins Co. Librarian and the Hopkins Co. Historian. Brinkley Cemetery is separate from Johnson Island Cemetery. It is not listed in any Hopkins Co. cemetery books. A note will be added to the book in their Genealogical Society's Library. Any one wanting to verify Brinkley Cemetery's existence can email the Hopkins Co., Ky Genealogical Society through their web site.
This is an old family cemetery. Change the map to satellite. You have to follow the road going to Johnson Island Cemetery. The road bears left on the map but right traveling up the road near the end, and ends with a closed gate across the entrance of the property.
This is on private property and is completely surrounded with woods. The cemetery is a few hundred yards straight back underneath a big oak tree. There are small trees and fallen limbs and a large old tree that has fallen across the cemetery. One stone still standing but half way in the ground can be seen underneath the tree and others could possibly be completely buried.
There are seven (7) graves in this cemetery that are listed as being in Johnson Island Cemetery, they are not. They are in this cemetery, I have photos of them. I cannot create memorials and add photos for them here because I cannot make duplicates and they refuse to move them.
