|Cemetery notes and/or description:|
Pioneer settlers of Delmar Township, Tioga County, established the First Baptist Church of Delmar in 1837 in the Butler School House. Church members established a cemetery on a knoll behind and west of the church at N 41.684633 W -77.357150. Nearby, the Stony Fork Butler Family Cemetery was established for use by the Wellman Butler family and others neighbors at 950 feet and 192 degrees south of the First Baptist Church Cemetery. Around 1894, the First Baptist Church of Delmar abandoned its original location near the cemetery and erected a new building 1 mile south in the village of Stony Fork. The church was renamed the Stony Fork Baptist Church. By the early 1900s, both cemeteries were no longer used by residents, and for unknown reasons, maintenance ceased as well. Encroached upon by forest, brush, nearby farming and mobile home park construction, the two cemeteries disappeared into second growth forest and vegetation. Many headstones became lost, broken, buried, and/or eroded by time and lichens. An undocumented number of graves were moved to other Tioga County cemeteries. Around 2005, local residents and church members took up an interest in resuming maintenance. Two partials surveys of graves are on file at the Tioga County Historical Society. Historically, the cemetery has been named the First Baptist Church of Delmar Cemetery, the Free Will Baptist Cemetery and the Old Baptist Cemetery. In 2011, church members erected a sign for the Stony Fork Baptist Church Cemetery.
