Edlesborough is a village within Aylesbury Vale district in Buckinghamshire, England. It is within the civil parish of Edlesborough Northall and Dagnall. Edlesborough is also adjacent to the village of Eaton Bray over the county boundary in Bedfordshire, about three miles WSW of Dunstable.The church still regards itself as being in Bedfordhire.
The village name is Anglo Saxon in origin, and means 'Eadwulf's barrow'. It was listed in the Domesday Book of 1086 as Eddinberge. The village was once a centre for the straw plait industry.
St Mary the Virgin, is in the parish of Eaton Bray with Edlesborough (which comprises Eaton Bray, Edlesborough, Dagnall, Northall and Wellhead) in the Deanery of Dunstable, part of the St Albans Archdeaconry, which in turn is part of the St Albans diocese.
The Church is early 13c. and has carved Early English stone arches and font, elaborate 13c. Ironwork on the south door and Bray family brass. It is described as one on the finest Parish Churches in the country.[text by Geoffrey Gillon]
