|Cemetery notes and/or description:|
The Samuel Denny Cemetery is named after Samuel Stone Denny son of David and Hannah Goff Denny. It is located on the Southwest Quarter of Section 22, Township 2 North, Range 4 East on land purchased by David Denny in 1816. In 1892 the Denny farm was sold by John H. Denny and his sisters Margaret Denny Miller, and Hannah Denny exempting the cemetery and the right of way to it. It is located southeast of Salem and North of the Southway Villa Mobile Home Park at Highway 60 and Central Avenue in the woods. The location on the map is approximate. The Washington County Cemetery Commission set a stone there in 2004. Photos of all surviving headstones from this cemetery have been taken and posted. Due to vandalism many of the older headstones no longer exist and some of those that remain have been broken. It's possible that some of the older headstones were carried off into the woods surrounding the cemetery and may still exist.
