Opened in 1846, Dean Cemetery is on the site of the former Dean Mansion House. Some of the walls within the cemetery were part of the original estate. It was one of the first cemeteries in the Edinburgh to be laid out in formal lines.
Monumental inscriptions are recorded in “The Dean Cemetery,” 1993 Inscriptions for the extension are recorded separately in “Dean (Edgehill) cemetery & Dean Parish Church”
The 20th century extension is separate from the main cemetery, north of Ravelston Terrace with the main cemetery now only accessible by a small gateway on the east side from the grounds of Dean Gallery. The modern extension is only accessible at the junction of Dean Path and Queensferry Road.
