Manunui Cemetery is approx 4 kms South of Manunui Township along State Highway 4 heading towards National Park.In the early days, Manunui Township was a Saw Milling town with about 5 to 6 timber mills,it had a Four Square shop, Drapery, Butcher, 2 Dairies, Fish and Chip shop and a Picture Theatre called Kings Theatre. After selling their farm in Otunui to son John William Quirke, William Joseph and Mary Anne Quirke brought a small farm about 7 kms South on State Highway 4 which the Wanganui River flow's behind. When William Joseph Quirke died in 1963 Mary Anne Quirke sold the farm and moved to Kirtons Road Manunui which is siturated 2 kms East on State Highway 41 heading towards Turangi.John William Quirke and wife Ruth Winifred Quirke sold the farm in Otunui after their house caught on fire and burnt down.They also brought a house in Kirtons Road next door to Mary Anne Quirke.Kirtons Road is approx 3 km from Manunui Township.Manunui is also a farming town. Taumarunui Township is approx 4 KMS to the North heading on State Highway 4 from Manunui. Taumarunui is siturated on the Main Trunk Railway Line which runs from Auckland to Wellington.
