Cemetery notes and/or description:
The history of the Linden Lutheran Church, located six miles southwest of Thompson, IA, dates back to 1870. Early settlers began moving out to prairie land in the vicinity and soon became interested in forming a church congregation to consist of about seven families. Until 1880 the group was served by pastors from other congregations.

A meeting was held January 3, 1886, at the Mattison schoolhouse with Rev. Knut Salveson as chairman and Christian Larson as secretary. Out of the meeting came the Evangelical Lutheran Linden congregation. Council members, trustees, secretary and treasurer were elected and Rev. Salveson was called as pastor.

An offer from Jorgen Janson (George Johnson) was accepted February 14, 1891, of three acres of land in the southwest corner of section 9 of Linden Township for a church and cemetery. George Johnson was known as a large farmer in those days. At one time he herded 600 cattle and 400 sheep. The cattle and sheep yard is now the land belonging to the Linden Church. He was the first settler in Linden Township.
