The cemetery is located at the crossing of Raccoon (recently renamed Mary McLeod Bethune) Road and Swimming Pen Road, Lee County, S. C.
To reach this cemetery from Bishopville, travel S.C. 15S for approximately 5 miles, Manville, turn left onto S.C. #28 and travel 3 miles. Turn right onto Raccoon (Mary McLeod Bethune) Road and travel 5.l miles. Turn left onto Swimming Pen Road; cemetery is located .2 mile on right in a scrub-oak thicket, approximately 130 ft. from road.
The oldest tombstone in this cemetery is that of Captain R. G. McLeod, born April 9, 1779, and died December 25, 1856.
The Sardis Methodist Church was located near the cemetery. (Sardis was situated about one mile east of Bethel United Methodist Church, across Swimming Pen on Scape 'Ore Swamp. In 1858, some members of Sardis Church consolidated with the Clark's Church, Lodebar Camp Ground Church, and some members of Rembert's Church to form a new church, Bethel.
In 1880, Sardis closed its doors and joined with Bethel).
