Thomas Pleasant was the first to be buried here around 1860. His daughter, Ruth Pleasant Williams, was the last person buried here in 1897. In 1972 a pine tree was still standing that marked the grave of John R. Williams. As in many older cemeteries, there were few markers for the approximately one hundred persons believed to be burried there. After the land left the ownership of the Williams family. the land was plowed and crops planted there. The only tombstone left, after many years, was one for Alfred Williams, a Civil War Soldier.
It was a concern of some of the family and in 1969, under the leadership of Jessie Thomas, a memorial stone was erected by some of the descendants of John R. And Ruth Williams.
This land purchased by John R. Williams from his father-in-law, and where the family cemetery was located, is on the farm that John Fender and others of his family own today. (1983) At that time it was in Flinn township, but today it is in Shawswick.
The Williams Family Cemetery, 2 1/2" miles North of the Pinhook Church of Christ is on the farm now owned by John Fender (1983)
Indiana Cemetery Locations, Volume 3, published by the Indiana Genealogical Society (April 2007), gives the primary cemetery name as Williams Cemetery.
The cemetery is listed in the Cemetery and Burial Grounds Registry of the Indiana Department of Natural Resources (DNR) and in the State Historical Architectural and Archaeological Research Database (SHAARD) with Cemetery Record Number CR-47-167 (Williams).
