Cemetery notes and/or description:
Lyon-Lipford Cemetery
Recorded by Jim Bates, US Forest Service
8120102
This cemetery is located deep in the woods on the Sumter National Forest approximately
one and one-half miles east of Cedar Springs in southern Greenwood County. To find the
cemetery, proceed approximately 1.8 miles northeast of Cedar Springs on state rcad 47.
Gated Forest Service Road 526Awi1l be on the right (south) side of the road. You may
need to get the Forest Service to unlock the gate. Proceed to the end ofthe gravel road.
The cemetery is on a ridge nose overlooking Reedy Branch about one third mile past the
end of the gravel road. An old unimproved woods road follows the ridge crest to the
edge of the cemetery. At the time of my visit the woods road was overgrown.
The cemetery contains at least thirty-four graves. Most were identified by sunken linear
features oriented in an east-west direction. Some graves are also marked with unaltered
fieldstones. One group of graves (Lyon) has an obelisk monument with several names.
Three graves (Lipford) are enclosed in a low brick rectangular wall with a metal railing
and marked by tablet stones.
