Cemetery notes and/or description:
The former vineyard was turned into a rose garden in 1810 under the direction of Grandduchess Wilhelmine von Baden, Grandduchess of Hessen-Darmstadt. Between 1826 and 1831 the "Old Mausoleum" was erected with plans by architect Georg Moller in memeory of the young Princess Elisabeth. Just a few yards away the "New Mausoleum" was built from 1903-1910 with plans by architect Karl Hofmann for other members of the duke's family. Outside the New Mausoleum is also a small cemetery (burial ground) for members of the Hesse family.
