At least one burial is decorated with artificial flowers. Several of the early twentieth century burials are marked with modem commercial markers, indicating there has been some replacement of earlier markers. The epitaphs are personal rather than biblical, and two of the commercial markers have Masonic symbols.
One notable local figure buried here is Smith Brooks (1837-1911). According to research by Norman Warnell, Smith Brooks was a survivor of a tragic boat accident on the river in 1909. The river had risen forty feet above normal, and the boat carrying the Brooks' overturned. One man lost his life before a family member in another boat was able to save Smith and other members of the Brooks family.
From the Visitor's Center take Rt. 70 approximately 6.6 miles until you reach Arthur. Take a right on Rt. 726. Go.4 miles up Rt. 726 to the intersection with Rt. 668. Follow this road 1.9 miles up to the jeep trail to the cemetery entrance road. Go.5 miles up this road to the cemetery. There is a large parking area adjacent to the cemetery.
