|Cemetery notes and/or description:|
July 4, 2009: When looking for Quartzburg at Google.com, I found several sites that state that Quartzburg is no longer in existence and only the Quartzburg Cemetery remains. Maps.Google.com lists Quartzburg as "near Hornitos". Since I could not add the Quartzburg Cemetery to Findagrave without choosing a city and since Quartzburg isn't listed as a choice, I chose Hornitos, since it is closeby. If anyone has any further information on the Quartzburg Cemetery, please let me know and I will add it to this description. Thank you.
Per Wikipedia: "Quartzburg (earlier, Burns' Creek, Burns' Camp, Burns' Ranch, and Burns' Diggings) is a former settlement in Mariposa County, California. It was located on Burns Creek 2 miles (3.2 km) upstream from Hornitos.
John and Robert Burns settled at the site in 1847. A mining camp grew up. A post office operated at Quartzburg from 1851 to 1861. The name "Quartzburg" was bestowed by Thomas Thorn due to the quartz outcroppings at the place."
4 Jul 2009: Cemetery added to Find-a-Grave by Linda Applegate Brown (46791676). The cemetery is barely visible from the road. You have to know it is there, and it is on private property.
