|Cemetery notes and/or description:|
In the Tinton mining district, Bear Town had a population of about 1000 at one time, including grocery stores, drinking establishments, a blacksmith shop, grocery store and a hotel, mixed with a clutter of shacks and tents. The cemetery is located on a flat spot where the business district was.Chris Hill in his book After the Gold Rush says this is the oldest cemetery in the Tinton District and gives the names of others buried here.
All three graves that were at this site are
no longer visible, since logging operations went on in this area, this from report in about 1988, published in Cemeteries and Graves in Lawrence County by Irma Klock and others.
