|Cemetery notes and/or description:|
This Lutheran cemetery is run by the Sophien Congregation. It borders the Urnenfriedhof Seestrasse.
Tel.: 001 49 - 30 4515 632
It has a size of 36,374 square meters or almost 9 acres. The first funeral took place in July of 1859.
During the final weeks of WW II many citizens of Wedding were quickly buried here. This meadow of the civilian victims of WW II is a memorial site and the graves are eternal.
Please note that the final resting places in Germany are not eternal, due to lack of space. This cemetery has a "period of repose" of 20 years. Once the time is up for a renewal of the "lease" the cemetery administration will place a small sticker on the grave marker to alert the family that the time has expired. Unless another lease is purchased the grave will be leveld, re-used and the stone ends up as gravel in road construction.
