|Cemetery notes and/or description:|
Elmwood Cemetery is close to the Missouri River, west of Elk Point. In the 1870's there was a thriving town here named "Texas" in what was then known as "Dakota Territory". That is why you see those names on the gate sign. In its heyday it had a first class hotel, stores, a post office, and a lumber mill. It was also a riverboat stop with people and supplies brought in and lumber shipped out. Today there is nothing left except this little abandoned cemetery.
