|Cemetery notes and/or description:|
"Legend tells the first burial on the site that later became the Attica Cemetery was the daughter of Chief Winnishiek whose Sugar River campsite was north of Attica. Attica was first called Winnishiek after the Hochunk chief but was later named Attica by New York settlers.
First known settler burial was Harriet Dodge, daughter of Everett and Elvira Dodge. She died Sept. 17, 1846 at the age of 17 days." From the Attica Cemetery Association Brochure.
There are approximately 313 interments in this cemetery which has recently been receiving much attention from the Attica Cemetery Association with new fencing, stones repaired, new signage, etc. To date, about 30 graves are still unidentified.
