Cemetery notes and/or description:
The original Cambrai Cathedral was a large Gothic structure completed in the mid-11th Century. It was known throughout Europe for its musical establishment and during the Renaissance was the focal point of the Burgundian School of composers (Dufay, Binchois, Ockeghem, Obrecht). Between 1793 and 1797 the building was completely destroyed, though its archives were preserved. The present Cambrai Cathedral was completed in 1705 as the Abbey Church of St. Sulpice, and when the Catholic Diocese of Cambrai was restored in 1802 it was elevated to cathedral status.
