|Cemetery notes and/or description:|
Etzenhausen is a part of the city of Dachau. Originally independent and first mentioned in 804 A.D.
The village cemetery dates back to about 1800, with a small church dedicated to St. Laurentis in its middle. As often in Germany the cemetery and its chapel have different names.
Four cemeteries fall under the jurisdiction of the city of Dachau. They are
- Alter (Stadt-) Friedhof
- Dachau (Waldfriedhof)
- Pellheim Cemetery
- Etzenhausen Cemetery
Unlike American cemeteries, due to lack of space, the "final" resting places in Germany are not eternal. The plots are usually leased (subscribed to) for a certain period of time (15-25 years). After that it depends on the descendants (or the community if it's a famous person) to finance another period of 15-25 years.
If no family is left, and the grave is old, the plot is cleaned and will be used for another burial.
