|Cemetery notes and/or description:|
This historic cemetery is adjacent to the old Monticello Methodist Episcopal Church, established in 1809, with the current structure being built in 1895. Building was sold in 1960, when congregation moved to a newer, larger site; the cemetery remained intact. Cemetery contains many founding members of Jasper County and Monticello.
No longer active, it is maintained by the local United Methodist Church, with several family plots surrounded by beautiful wrought iron Victorian fences. It opened to the public. There are appx 170 known burials here and probably many more scattered throughout the grounds.
From Monticello Square, take Forsyth Street (83) south to Short Street. Turn left on Short Street. Cemetery will be on your right.
