|Cemetery notes and/or description:|
From Harlan on Hwy 38, go through the towns of Short Town, Colts, Shields, Gano and Ridgeway. Go Past Benito Ridgeway Rd on the right. At the bend in Hwy 38 you will go past CR-1123D/Paw Paw Lane on the right (which is a 270 degree turn off from Hwy 38 - you will also see Benito-Highsplint Cemetery up the hill on the left side of Hwy 38). Go past Locust Street on the right (which is another 270 degree turn off from Hwy 38). Turn right onto Seagroves Rd, take the narrow 2 lane bridge across the river, and stop at the white guard shack for permission to enter.
Highsplint is now owned by a mine operator that has an active coal mining operation there. You are only allowed access to the Cloverfork Museum which is in a white, historic building just past the guard shack and to the right. You would need to obtain permission from the mine operator to go past the area where the Cloverfork Museum is located.
Highsplint cemetery is located in the area beyond the Cloverfork Museum. The cemetery is on the hill above what was called Granny Pond. Granny Pond was a local watering hole where kids used to go swimming and baptisms were performed.
The GPS Coordinates provided are to the Cloverfork Museum (just past the guard shack at the entrance to Highsplint). They may be able to provide some additional information about getting access to the burial site of your relatives.
