|Cemetery notes and/or description:|
The first resident of Rachel, Nevada was D.C. Day who moved from Tennessee to start an Alfalfa farm. The town originally was called Tempiute Village, and has also been known as Sand Springs Valley and Penoyer Valley. A town cooperative was formed to bring power to the valley at the same time they desired a new town name.
The first to be born and only child living in this valley at that time was Rachel Jones delivered by John and Debbie Jones in their mobile home on Feb. 15, 1977. Two weeks after her birth the town was named Rachel.
A secret government base to the south called Area 51 has made the town of Rachel famous. It sits on Highway 375 which has been named the "Extraterrestrial Highway" and has a restaurant and gift shop for experimental aircraft observers and UFO enthusiasts called the Little A'Le'Inn. Penoyer Farms still grows Alfalfa in the valley which causes the huge green circles from pivot point irrigation when seen from the air.
